Portugal's new home sales hit a 15-year high
In the first nine months of 2025, Portugal sold nearly 25,000 new homes—the highest figure since 2010.
According to data from Statistics Portugal (INE), 24,942 new homes were sold between January and September 2025. As reported by Jornal de Negócios, this marks the highest number since 2010—the last year before the Troika intervention, after which housing transactions sharply declined.
Sales of nearly 25,000 new homes from January to September 2025 amounted to approximately €7.9 billion, a 44.5% increase compared to 15 years ago. The same newspaper reported that the average price of new homes rose by 88.8% during the same period, climbing from €168,200 in 2010 to €317,579 in 2025.
In the Greater Lisbon area, the average price of new homes more than doubled over 15 years (+139.7%), rising from €234,984 to €563,300. In the Greater Porto metropolitan area, average prices increased by 80.2%, reaching €296,260—figures also provided by Statistics Portugal (INE).
Both transaction volumes and sales values for new homes in Portugal during the first nine months of 2025 have reached 15-year highs, indicating a sustained market upswing driven by rising demand and prices—highlighting a vibrant and highly attractive real estate market in Portugal.
